Exhibition ship Hong-Kong The internationalisation of our company tends to be focused on M&A, but in 1956, four years before we established our first overseas company, we participated in the Beijing-Shanghai Japanese Goods Exhibition. This was the same year as the completion of the direct current electrification of the Tokaido Main Line(a part of Japan Railway main line). In the same year, Akihiko HOSOKAWA, the sales manager and elder brother of Masuo HOSOKAWA, the managing director at the time, participated in the Japan Machinery Cruise Exhibition, which was financially supported by the Japanese government. This involved using the ship as an exhibition venue, stopping at eight locations in South East Asia over a period of three months to introduce Japanese products.
Two years later, in 1958, Masuo HOSOKAWA installed his new micro-pulveriser at a venue in Hong Kong and sent out invitations to grind anything into powder. Despite the rainy weather, more than a hundred people attended, which is said to have given him renewed confidence in his overseas business. In the light of this experience, various sales companies were set up in order to establish a closer relationship with customers in South East Asia and to provide them with technology and support.
